Anniversary of the LA Fires

Zeke, Denny O’Neil, and Tim Chavez had a phone call today week to catch up on the LA Fires. The three of us, along with Harrison Raine, toured the fire areas and Santa Monica Mountains back in May 2025, and made a docu-series about it called ‘DANGER IN PLAIN SIGHT’. The three recounted their journey to Los Angeles five months after the LA fires. Here’s their conversation:

As the anniversary of the LA Fires approach, a lot of us are still asking: WHY? Our film series, DANGER IN PLAIN SIGHT, takes fire experts into LA to ask the same questions. In May of 2025, Zeke and fellow fire experts spent a week on e-bikes in Los Angeles, looking at the recently-burned areas and exploring wildfire-prone neighborhoods. They were there to try to make sense of the recent LA fires, and to share lessons we’ve learned across several careers spent working on large fires in California.
