Green Fire Update – 7/19/2025

The firefighters continue to make good progress on the Green Fire north of Shasta Lake.

They’ve now completed firing operations down the ridge between Rip Gut Creek and Fenders Ferry Road, and the firing operation is filling in back towards the main body of the fire.

On the south flank of the fire, fire lines have been holding to keep the fire from progressing farther south towards Shasta Lake.

The firefighters really got a break from the weather with nearly two weeks of mild winds, and this allowed them time to prepare the indirect fire lines on Rip Gut Ridge and fire them using drones and hand crews.

As we’ve mentioned in previous broadcasts, the fire effects of this fire have been largely beneficial, burning with low severity in oak woodlands.

A big shout out to the folks that have coordinated and pulled off this complex firing operation, and to the land managers who conducted previous burns on Green Mountain, that helped contain the fire’s southern edge.

The poison oak in this area is no joke. I just ran into a Diamond Mountain Hotshot who has had 3 days off to scratch his poison oak. He is now headed to another PO hotspot, the Salmon River.

That’s all for now.
