The 2025 Maidu TREX was a collaborative prescribed fire training exchange event, held in Berry Creek, California. The event was a collaboration between the Butte County Resource Conservation District, Berry Creek Rancheria of Tyme Maidu Indians of California, and many other partners.
The Maidu TREX aimed to give tribal members safe opportunities to use fire to tend their lands in Berry Creek. Partner agencies helped organize 3 days of burning which included youth training, pile burning, broadcast burning, spot-burning of deer grass, and high-severity fire to reduce invasive Himalayan blackberries.
Lookout Media’s Director, Zeke Lunder, worked (alongside Megan Herrera, of the Berry Creek Rancheria) as one of the Unified Incident Commanders for this event. Your support of The Lookout helps make this prescribed fire education work – our core mission – possible!
