2-years ago, the destructive and massive Park Fire swept across Butte County, burning hundreds of homes. Today, we’re sharing the story and technical details of how a local homeowner and his son were able to save their home during an intense firefight on the first night of this fire, using an irrigation/firefighting system they had set up, tested, and trained on over the preceeding years.
We don’t recommend staying and doing this sort of thing unless you have some training or experience with firefighting. However, a sprinkler system like the ones in this video is something you can turn on (and leave running) to wet down your place before you evacuate.
If you already have a swimming pool or fire water tank, but don’ t love the smell of PVC pipe glue, some friends of mine are selling turn-key pump, hose, and sprinkler systems that you can hook up to your existing tank or swimming pool. Check them out at www.fireandrainsystems.com, and tell them The Lookout sent you!
