This afternoon’s explosive growth, as of 4:45pm, was toward the east and southeast, and the SE spread mainly stayed in the canyon, not spreading significantly onto ridgetop. The fire was still east of Volcanoville Road between Mount Hope and the powerlines, shown in green.Past the powerlines to the south, the fire had crossed Volcanoville Road.
As of 4:45, the north flank appeared to be largely holding along Chicken-Hawk Ridge.

Looking southwest over the American River as fire crest’s the ridge to Volcanoville.
At 4:45 pm, the Mosquito Fire was a little over a half mile from the Foresthill Elementary School.

As of 1:30pm, air-attack is saying the fire HAS crossed the river to the south, into El Dorado County,
The map below was captured at 12:45, right before the fire crossed the Middle Fork or Rubicon Rivers to the south. View below is to the east, upriver.
The fire has spread into Volcano Canyon, about 1.5 miles east of Foresthill.
The fire was mainly still south of Chicken-Hawk Road, but had slopped over at Michigan Bluff.
The fire spread about 1/4 – 1/3 mile to the east between 4am and 12:45pm.

The Mosquito Fire continued to grow overnight, most significantly to the north and east, up and through the Michigan Bluff area. The fire also grew and spotted in the direction of Foresthill to the west and progressed to the southeast up to the Mosquito Ridge Lookout and to Pennsylvania Point.
The Mosquito Fire is approximately 30 miles from Lake Tahoe.
The Mosquito Fire is now approximately 1.75 miles from the Foresthill Elementary School.
The Mosquito Fire is now approximately .8 of a mile from the Baker Ranch Mobile Home Park.
The longest run in the last 12 hour mapping period was over .8 of a mile, where the fire has now established in the East Branch of El Dorado Canyon and El Dorado Creek Watershed.
There’s a lot of folks living in harms way near the Mosquito Fire. This map shows structures east of the American River and within arms reach of the fire. The majority of residents live south and west from the immediate fire area and for now, the majority of the fire’s growth has been in the opposite direction.

The Fork Fire on the North Fork Rancheria is moving away from town to the southeast between Roads 222 and 225.
Between 5pm yesterday and 2:30am this morning, the fire grew by nearly a mile and a half.
The GREEN lines are power lines. The Fork Fire was .2 of a mille from the Powerhouse at 2:30am.

The Fairview Fire grew by leaps and bounds over the past 12-hour burn cycle. This area is home to one of the last remaining large contiguous stands of chaparral in southern California and hasn’t seen fire in nearly 100 years.
This unnamed fire form 1928 provides some interesting indicators of how fire likes to move across this landscape.
The fire jumped 2.7 miles to the south in a little under 12 hours.
